Why this retirement calculator exists
I built this website as a tool to help me plan out my own finances for retirement.
I wanted to answer some fairly ordinary questions. How long would my savings and pension actually last? Was I better off drawing from savings first, or the pension? What would deferring the State Pension really be worth? Every tool I found either wanted an email address before showing me anything, stopped short of the detail I needed, or ended in a prompt to book a paid consultation.
So I built what I was looking for. I spent some of my life running my own IT company, so the building part was familiar territory — the retirement part I was learning as I went, same as anyone approaching it for the first time.
What this is, and what it isn't
I'm not a financial adviser, and I'm not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Nothing here is financial advice. It's a calculator that models scenarios using the figures you supply on the Profile page.
There are pages that cover Drawdowns, a Tax optimiser, the State Pension, Equity release, Care costs and Inheritance tax. On most pages there are adjustments you can make that show how your finances can change with time given different rates.
I've also included 10 helpful guides written in plain English that cover the basics of these topics that I found most useful during my research.
All the assumptions the tool makes are set out openly on the relevant pages. I hope you find the site useful.

How your data is handled
The figures you enter stay in your own browser's local storage. You can choose to save your details so the tool remembers them next time — but even then, they stay only on your own device, in your browser, and are never sent to me or anyone else. There's no account to create and nothing to sign up for, and clearing your browser data clears your profile.
The site does use Google Analytics and displays Google AdSense adverts, both of which collect their own data — the Privacy Policy sets out the detail.
